Wow, it has been a long time since I have posted, mainly because of having so much work in Mr Jones class! ( Lots of Maths! )
The classroom is so much different to Mr Woody's, and especially from Mr Wones!
Does anyone remember Mr Wones? I think we all got a detention that day! Mr Jones thankfully isn't that harsh, but he can be a lot scarier when he wants to!!

'Wssshh...' The waves lazily crash on the golden sand, as I take another sip of my cool, fresh orange juice. I slowly stretch my body out, and dip my legs into the cool water. I dive in, the lovely water surounding me, as I come up for air. The seagulls are calling, the sun shines down. My ocean, my home.I slowly swim over to an island, covered with palm tree's. As I pull myself up from the smooth water, I once again feel the warmth of the golden sand between my toes. I strech out on a hammok, rocking to and fro. I watch the clouds slowly travel across the sky. The sun is dipping further, but my campfire keeps me warm. I toast marshmallows, as I watch the sun set, streaming oranges and purples into the sky to remind me of its glory. Its getting late. I swim back to the main land, and I am greeted by my cat. As she srokes my legs with her head, wanting attention. I approach my cosy house, and am greeted by my family.'Yawn' i am ready for bed. As I settle into my cosy blanket, I hear the sea splashing.

Ahhh... Heaven.

I found a monkey in my pyjamas!! he jumped out and then he ate them! He raced off to the toilet, but i raced after him, tripping him up just as he was about to jump out of my window, to find his spaceship to fly back to the planet bananas! He cunningly bit my hand and then jumped on my hand, escaping out the window. He blasted of in his space ship and just when I thought he was gone, he burped out my pyjamas and they slowly flaoated back to earth,

I was told about this website when I was doing the famine with mudpies and queenie. Its a great website, that when you get a words definition right, UN (United nation) will donate 20 grains of rice to the poor people wherever they go. I got 500 grains of rice donated by my efforts, and maybe you could try to. If everyone tryed and hgad 100 donated, which is easy, as you only need to get 5 words right, heaps of rice could be donated. It would also be a good thing for our word study definitions!

KAKEPUKU!

“The wheels on the bus go round and round...” sang room 5
“Oh no, not that again,” complained Ellen “That’s the 5th time they have sung that song!”
“Its not that bad” I said, going out of the window at the soft drizzle.
“luckily its not pouring down, other wise it would be absolutely horrible to climb mount Kakepuku!” Adrian commented.
It was the 16 of April, and Room 5 was about to walk up mount Kakepuku. The bus was now zooming past green, dew filled paddocks, almost there.
“look out the window,” said Mr Woody, pointing to a shape in the distance “that is Mount Kakepuku!”
* * *

“Come on then, hurry up and grab your gear, we are at Mt Kakepuku” Mr Drow said, as he parked the Peachgrove bus on the gravel car park.
“Any one seen the parents?” asked Gema. The parents had had travelled in a separate car.
“No I actually haven’t seen any cars since we left Kakepuku.” Robin said.
“Come on guys, lets wait for the parents in the picnic area. Its just behind those trees” said Susan, pointing to a small amount of trees a few metres away. So we wandered over to the picnic area, except it really wasn’t one. There where no tables or seats, just grass and trees.
“Well that’s strange” said a puzzled Susan “Im sure that there were picnic tables and less trees here, maybe its on the other side?”
“Well, the parents haven’t arrived yet,” said Mr Woody as he came around from the bus where he had been waiting for the parents. “Maybe we should just go up the Mountain, because we haven’t got time for waiting.”
Susan opted to stay with a group that were going to stay and wait. When that was settled we started our tramp into Mt Kakepuku.
* * *
“Grrg” someone’s rumbled stomach.
“Maybe we should have our morning tea” suggested Joleine. We had been walking for about 20 minutes and where in the thick bush.
“Come on guys, lets walk for a little bit longer. You’ve got to earn your food!” joked Mr Woody.
“theres a lot of trees in this part isn’t there!” Suddenly, the most majestic chirp filled the air.
“Whoah! That sounded like a Huia. Which is funny, because they are extinct!” Mr Woody marvelled, and turned to walk off track to find it.
“Umm, Mr Woody. Are you okay?” asked Ellen. Mr woody turned to us, and with a glassy, spaced out look in his eyes said “Yes my darlings, Im just splendid.” The air had a creepy feeling to it as we carried on in silence.
* * *
“Right then, time for lunch now” said Mr Woody, although he still seemed far away in his own land, he was more aware of us and seemed to know that we were indeed very hungry from our long, tiresome walk.
“Umm Mr Woody, I kind of need to go to the loo!” Lucy shyly asked, not wanting to annoy Mr Woody.
“Yeah sure.” Mr Woody replied, not bothering to worry about her safety.
“But Mr Woody, that’s not very safe” Beatrice stated the obvious, but Nor Mr Woody or Lucy were to be seen.
“MR WOODY, LUCY?” Room 5 desperately tried to call them back, but it was hopeless. We all started to get scared, and some of us even cried.
“Wait, its no use to us if we just stay here, wetting our faces and freaking about ‘what if’s.’” I tried co-ordinate Room5, but it was no use, no one would listen until Abby stood up, and yelled at the top of her lungs
“BE QUIET!” Well that got there attention! All room 5ians eyes stared up at Abby.
“Well, now that I’ve got your attention, who thinks that we should split up?” Abby asked. The majority of room5ians put up their hands so we split up, some going one way some going the other. I am staying here with Shayarn, Olivia, Sabrina and Lisa. The day is growing later and the temperature has severely dropped. We are setting up camp, and wrapping up with some of our warmest clothes.
“Maybe someone should get some fire wood?” suggested Olivia.
“I’ll go” Lisa opted.
“Okay, but don’t go to far, we don’t want you disappearing like Lucy did” Shayarn said. So, with Lisa off in the bush Shayarn and me tried our best to make a shelter while Olivia and Sabrina got all the food together and sorted which ones we needed to eat before they went rotten. Luckily Shayarn and me had both brought a tarpaulin, and Sabrina had a big blanket, so it seemed as though we could all fit beneath our tiny, make shift shelter.
‘Rustle, rustle’ The bushes just by our area began to move
“Umm, I don’t know about you guys, but im just a bit creeped out over here.” Olivia shakily said.
‘Rustle, rustle’ Uh Oh, Lisa just hobbled in, clutching her stomach.
“Are you all right Lisa?” Our group said in unison, getting up and helping Lisa to the ground.
“Big, white, spider” was all she could manage. Shayarn quickly turned into doctor mode,
“Quick, get the first aid kit, I think she’s been bitten by a white tailed spider.”
“No, are you serious” sabrina sarcastically smirked, and in return got one of the foulest glares I have ever seen.
“The bite’s not to bad, Although it must of hurt.” Shayarn said, after checking the bite marks. Lisa had seemed to calm down a lot to, and had said that while searching for bark, The spider had crawled up her leg, and probably for defence would have bitten her stomach.
“I think my stomachs trying to tell me that I need some food!” I laughed as my stomach let out a few groans!
“Okay, we need to eat up the fruit and yoghurts first.” Olivia said, handing out some of the left over food from that day. We gobbled it up, and got ready for our first night alone on Kakepuku.

During the night, Im not sure whether it was in my dreams or in real life, I heard whispering, and the rattle of feet around our shelter. One time I woke up sweating, and crying from my horrible dream. The rest of my dreams were nice, I dreamt that we were whisked off Mt Kakepuku, on a majestic red and gold carpet, to the safety of our hou-
“Wake up Belinda, Wake up!” Shayarn brutally shook my shoulders, and I managed to open my eyes to the bright sun.
“Lisa’s gone, she was here last night, but now she is gone!” Shayarn was really freaking out.
“Its okay, Im sure she’s just going toilet, or something like that.” I comforted her, but I could see she was still worried.
"How about we wait 10 minutes, and If she is not back, we'll go searching for her." I sugested, and Shayarn nodded, although I could tell she was shocked by Lisa's sudden dissaperance. ." “Im just going to wait over here” suggested Shayarn, pointing to a small group of trees by our tent. The others were starting to wake, and by the time I had explained what had happened it was 9:00, and we were starting to get hungry.
“Umm, where’s Shayarn?” Sabrina asked.
“She is just over there” I said pointing to where Shayarn had been but was no where to be seen.
“Oh man, I hope she hasn’t disappeared too!” I said, really starting to be scared of his strange mountain trip.
“Im just over here” A shaky little voice appeared, so we flung ourselves around to find a very pale Shayarn reaching down by her bag and getting some oranges out.
“You’re going to need these if we are going to get through this day alive”
“Thanks Shayarn” Courteny said, and the group half heartedly munched on there oranges. Poor Shayarn looked as white as a ghost as she slowly munched on her orange.
“Umm, Shayarn, are you really all right?” I asked, but Shayarn was on the floor, violently shaking and twitching.
“Oh my gosh, quick some one help her!” Sabrina shouted, rushing over to the place where Shayarn was lying. Me and Olivia hurriedly followed, bringing the first Aid kit as well.
“I... want... tree” was what Shgayarn mumbled, pointing to a big Kauri tree, about 3 metres from where we all where.
“Im not sure if that's a good idea.” Olivia shrugged, obviously not wanting to risk her safety, but all Shayarn said was;
“I... want... tree” so we carefully led her to the tree, where she huddled up close, and was muttering something to what the tree.
“Lets just leave her for a bit.” I said.
“But we need to keep a close eye out for her” I added, “because we definitely don’t want her disappearing like Lisa.” The end of my sentence suddenly reminded us of Lisa, It had been 25 minutes since I had woken up, and we needed to look for her.
“Lets wait until Shayarn is better, and then we will try looking for her.” Olivia said, and the whole group agreed. I gazed at Shararn, who had now stood up and was slowly approaching us.
“Are you feeling better Shayarn?” Sabrina sweetly said, and you could just feel the honey oozing out of her wonderful tone.
“Mmm,” Shayarn mumbled, nodding slowly,
“I, I, I need to tell you guys something” Shayarn stuttered, and struggled to speak the words out of her mouth.

NIGHT GLOW!!!

On Saturday the Balloons over waikato night glow was on at the Unversity of Waikato! It was a great sucess, and had balloons such as 'Scary house, Lil' Pirate and Darth Vader! The fire works afterwards were just as stupendous, and lasted for 10 minutes!! Me and mudpies were there together, and really enjoyed it!!!

SMURFS!!

A few of you may now those cute men in blue! I love the cute design of them and hope you learn some stuff about them!!!!

In the beginning...
On October 23, 1958 the Smurfs made their first appearance in a story of Johan & Peewit in “Le Journal de Spirou”. Their creator Peyo had worked previously at a number of drawing jobs. But the introduction of the Smurfs into Spirou would change his life.

At first, the Smurfs were just secondary characters. But they soon became stars in their own right. After a few mini-albums, their tales began to appear as full albums. Then the film “The Smurfs and the Magic Flute” appeared, with music by Michel Legrand (he also sang in the chorus !).

Music provided the next big step also, when the Dutch singer Vader Abraham released the first Smurf single. It was a massive hit in Belgium and Holland, followed by the rest of the world. Soon, figurines, plushes, toys, (hit) records and above all the TV shows brought them right around the world. In 1981, the celebrated cartoon duo Hanna & Barbera (who created Tom & Jerry and later the Flinstones and Yogi Bear) started work on a TV series for the NBC network in the USA. No fewer than 256 episodes were produced, which are currently showing in roughly 30 countries.

Although their creator Pierre Culliford - better known as Peyo - is no longer with us since Christmas 1992, the Smurfs have never been so popular. Over 10 million copies of Smurf CDs have been sold in the last 3 years alone. The books, activity books, figurines and toys are amongst the most popular in the world. The TV series is regularly re-issued as video collections in dozens of languages, as well as CD-i and in storybook form.

And with the new style and the increasing range of Smurfimedia coming out, the little blue men are sure to have plenty of surprises for fans in the years to come.

Déjà vu!

Most people have probably had this sensation a few times before. I know that I particuarly enjoy this radical feeling, and It leaves me feeling warm and fuzzy inside. It is thrilling to think that I may have dreamt it before, or that my mind is just playing tricks on me! Here is some info on that futuristic feeling!

Déjà vu, also called paramnesia, is the experience of feeling sure that you has witnessed or experienced a situation previously. The experience usually has a sense of familiarity, and also slight weirdness. The "previous" experience is most frequently linked to a dreams, although in some cases there is a firm sense that it genuinely happened in the past.
Déjà vu seems to be very common; in studies, 70% of people report having experienced it at least once. Recently, researchers have found ways to recreate this sensation using hypnosis.

My HamiltON inquiry on Hood street

Was Hood street worth all that money?
They built it, then tore it up, then built it again but it doesn't end there.
Hamilton City Council has decided to rip out about 10 grassy gardens on the Hood St because of design, safety and appearance issues.
The gardens were in a sorry state when the Waikato Times visited this morning, sporting forlorn dying and trampled plants.
People were falling and tripping into the gardens, the gardens would get in the way of pedestrians, and delivery vehicles had trouble loading and unloading. The damage to the gardens made them look messy.
The gardens would fall within the project cost, which was under budget.
Only three months after the beleaguered project was signed off it appears that all of the suspended lights on Hood street have to be replaced.
The lights were "defective" and had all been replaced by the suppliers, at no cost to council. Workers had spent time this week replacing the lights.
Leaks had caused several of the lights to "pop" early. There were no safety issues with the lights and while not all of them were faulty, they had all been replaced.
The intricate lighting network, some of which is suspended over the street and creates patterns on the street at night, made up $965,000 of the total project cost, according to council figures.
The lighting bungle is the latest in a series of snags the project has had and the council will review the project next month.
City residents think $5.3 million was frittered away.

Visit Riff Raff
Located at the south end of Hamilton's main Victoria Street is a statue of the iconic Riff Raff character from the cult status movie The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
The statue commemorates the development of the idea and the writing of The Rocky Horror Picture Show by Richard O'Brien - who lived in Hamilton and worked next door to the site of the now demolished Embassy Theatre where the statue is.

Hamilton Zoo
Visit Hamilton Zoo - home to 450 exotic and endangered animals and birds from around the world. Cheeky chimps, white rhino, tigers and the largest walk in free flight aviary in the southern hemisphere are all there - and more. Unique education programmes are also on offer.

Waterworld
Hamilton's premier swimming pool complex located in the north of the city boasts multiple pools – one multi-laned, Olympic sized pool with stadium seating, another large, multi-laned pool for youngsters and even a large paddling pool for the wee ones. For parents who need to put in some serious swim time, a licenced crèche is available. Special events are continually on offer for visitors of all ages.

Sporting action
Take your seat at Hamilton's world class sporting venues - or take part yourself. The city hosts international, national and local sporting events at its premier facilities and sports fever is a big part of Hamilton life.

Visit the city's libraries
Hamilton city is well supplied with libraries with one in the centre of the city in Garden Place and 5 community libraries. They offer free membership to people living in the city and provide access to books, DVDs, CDs, archives, magazines, and more.
Cruise the Waikato River
Enjoy a cruise on the mighty Waikato River aboard Hamilton's paddle steamer the M V Waipa Delta.

Lake Rotoroa (Hamilton Lake)
A popular Hamilton walk is to circle Hamilton's Lake Rotoroa. At around 4km, the off-road walkway with nothing between you and the lake takes you around its edge on boardwalks and paths, through stands of bush and past myriads of wading and free flight birds.
A cafe and extensive children's playground lie at the eastern end of the lake, while many types of boating from yachting to waka paddlers enjoy being on the lake.
Waikato River Walkways
A recently completed 11km walkway along both banks of the Waikato River which runs through the centre of Hamilton offers endless oppurtunitiesto walk, ride bikes and watch boats on the river. Whether you want to relax and unwind, or burn off some energy with a run or walk, this is the perfent place for that.

The fun comes indoors at SKYCITY Hamilton with its casino, Laserstrike game, ten pin bowling and sports bar - and more.

So there, Hamilton is such a great place (minus some of the names we've been called: Hamilton, more than you expect, the fountain city, hamiltron!!!) so don't call us boring!!

Roald Dahl!

Most of you have heard of Roald Dahl. He is one of my my favourite authors. I have done my speech and project on him, and my project is now in my old schools library! Roald’s life was anything but ordinary! i hope I have included some stuff you didnt know!!!! =o)

Roald was born in 1916. His father died when Roald was only three, so Roald was brought up by his mother in a village called Llandaff in Wales.

Roald had an unhappy time in school. From when he was 10 he boarded at St. Peters prep school. With teachers such as the twitching Captain Hardcastle, and a headmaster with a dreaded cane, it’s no wonder Roald was home sick!

There must be something strange about Roald’s nose. He almost lost it twice! When Roald was 9 years old, he and his family were driving in their car, when the car crashed! No one except Roald was injured and his nose had nearly been sliced off! Luckily he had it stitched back on!

Soon after Roald left school, World War II broke out and Roald joined the Air Force. He was a very tall man and struggled to fit into the cockpit!

On one of his flights, he was running low on fuel, and with night approaching, he was forced to attempt a landing in the desert. Unfortunately the plane crashed, fracturing his skull and smashing his nose again!!

He married actress Patricia Neal and they had five children. They divorced in 1983. He then married Felicity Crosland.
Roald some of the best-loved children's stories, such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and the BFG.

In Roald’s home in England there was an old garden shed. He used it for writing. In it he put a comfy chair and a table. The table had all sorts of weird things on it including; a ball of chocolate wrappers, bits of Roald’s spine (from when he had surgery) and even a piece of meteorite from out of space!

Roald once had a phone call from Buckingham Palace, asking if he wanted an OBE. But Roald declined, saying that he deserved to be knighted Sir Roald Dahl!

Roald died of leukemia in 1990, at his home, at the age of 74. In the graveyard, there are Big Friendly Giant footprints leading to his grave.

E learning

E-learning is a great way to learn, whether your looking something up on a computer, or speaking to someone on the other side of the world. At my old school we did not do a lot of it but at Peachgrove it has been great. I love it when Mr woody conects his laptop to the data projector and we can look up the blog and dicover stuff we would have never new if we had been writing things in our book. But is E-learning a good thing for schools? Please tell if you disagree with me or not!
Also, can we use the mobile in class to improve our learning?

Hello my fabulous friends!
I am really enjoying this awesome class and our wonderful teacher: (Mr Woody, you rock). I cant wait for next week, and I am all geared up for our trip to Mt Kakepuku. It is going to be so great, learning some interesting facts and dicovering how beautiful Kakepuku really is!
